The Monogram was created in 1896 by Georges Vuitton as a distinct expression of the House’s identity. Its interlaced LV initials and floral motifs were inspired by a combination of Neo-Gothic art and the decorative tiles found in the Vuitton family’s home in Asnières-sur-Seine, France. What began as an ornamental pattern soon became one of the most enduring signatures in fashion.
Over the past 130 years, the Monogram has continued to evolve while remaining closely connected to Louis Vuitton’s heritage of creativity and craftsmanship.
To mark the anniversary, Louis Vuitton introduces several collections that explore different aspects of the Monogram. Monogram Origine, VVN, and Time Trunk reinterpret the emblem through archival canvas, natural leather, and the House’s celebrated trunkmaking expertise. The anniversary also sees the return of the LVxTM collection, bringing the Monogram Multicolor back through a vibrant re-edition of established designs created with Takashi Murakami.
Another highlight is Monogram Emblème, which reimagines the signature through jacquard. The tactile canvas creates depth within the motif and draws inspiration from the historic jacquard canvas used on Louis Vuitton’s earliest trunks. The material appears across recognizable silhouettes including the Speedy, Side Trunk, Neverfull, and Alma bags.
The anniversary shines a spotlight on Louis Vuitton’s heritage trunks and the brand’s longstanding connection to travel. Meanwhile, the Monogram’s most recognizable icons remain central to the celebration. House Ambassadors, including Zendaya, Catherine Deneuve, Hoyeon, and Liu Yifei, further embody the Monogram’s strong presence across generations.
After 130 years, the Monogram remains more than a signature. It is a visual expression of Louis Vuitton’s history, craftsmanship, and longstanding conversation between heritage and modern creativity.
